Record Desktop/Screen Audio and Video Basics
 This functionality can be used to produce your own desktop demo video to present and to share, or to record any video or audio on the web that is difficult to download, etc.
To record desktop video, press "New Recording Task" button to invoke configuration dialog as shown in the following screenshot. For "Capture Type", choose "Desktop Video"; for "Capture Size", choose "Full Desktop" for recording full desktop area or "Desktop Region" for recording a particular area on desktop; for "Audio Input", SMRecorder will try to figure out the most appropriate audio recording device and audio input line, however, you can choose your prefered audio input options such as recording "Microphone" audio instead of "Wave Out Mix" audio. (Note: "Wave Out Mix" or "Wave Out" or something similar generally refers to audio line capable of capturing both audio from microphone and audio playing in computer.)
If you choose "Desktop Region", then you can specify a rectangle region by moving your mouse while keeping left mouse button down. In the following screenshot, a rectangle region is specified to surround a web video; then only the specified region will be recorded.
If you want to record desktop video without audio, select "Audio Settings" tab as shown in the following screenshot and tick off "Record Audio" option.
You can also change other desktop video recording parameters in "Video Settings" tab. For "Compression Quality", the higher value will produce clearer video. You can tick off "Capture cursor" option if you do not want to include your mouse in the video.
Record Desktop Tutorial or Demo Video
Start a new recording task for desktop video and configure recording settings, then press "OK" button to start recording. While your desktop demonstration is being recorded, you can interrupt the recording anytime by pressing "Ctrl+P" shortcut keys or clicking the corresponding system tray icon. You may insert screen annotation images at this moment to help explain the demonstration or to highlight some points, or simply take a break. To insert screen annotations, you can press "Screen Image Annotation" button to show annotation dialog as in the following screenshot. Image within the annotation image list can be displayed on screen by double-clicking it. You can add more annotation images by pressing "Add Images" button or simply dragging and dropping images into the annotation list. The annotation image can be irregular shaped as in the following screenshot. In this case, SMRecorder will try to figure out the most appropriate transparent area around the irregular shape for you. However, you can also manually specify the transparency color for the annotation image in order to make the transparency to fit well with the irregular shape. To do this, press "Select Transparency Color" button to choose the transparency color for your annotation images. After you finish inserting annotations, you can resume recording; then your recording and annotations will be seamlessly concatenated. This process can be repeated if you want to remove annotations or insert other annoations at some other time."
Record Desktop Audio and/or Microphone Audio into MP3
Start a new recording task. For "Capture Type", select "Desktop/Microphone Sound". For "Audio Input", if you want to record both desktop audio (sound from your computer) and microphone audio at the same time, you can choose "Wave Out Mix" or something similar (for different audio devices, this name may be a bit different); if you only want to record microphone audio, then choose "Microphone" as audio input line. Then press "OK" button to start recording.
Record Camera Video
Start a new recording task. For "Capture Type", select "Camera Video". Then you can press "OK" button to start recording.
While recording, you can preview live recording and control recording via resume/pause/stop buttons. Recorded camera video and audio will be save into Windows Media ASF format with .wmv file extension.
Convert Audio/Video into Different Formats
You may want to convert recorded .avi or .wmv file into other formats. This can be done via SMConverter. Please check the following link on how to convert audio/video formats:

A typical video format is FLV (Flash Video Format) which can be uploaded to most web video sites for playback. You can convert recorded AVI file to FLV file by using SMConverter and play FLV video file by using SFPlayer.
